All things funny about my babies

December 2, 2010

So, I was just thinking about all the funny things my kids say and do and how I have already started to forget some of them. To help me remember, I am going to start blogging everything funny that happens each days with my kids.
Here is a quick story from today.
Mommy: “Enzo, what did you do at school today?”
Enzo: “We just do craps.”
Daddy: “They did crafts!”

Pregnant, again!

June 2, 2009

I am 4 months pregnant with an 18 month old. My son will be 2 when the new baby comes. I am a little nervous about this. One of my main concerns is strollers. First of all, I have a hybrid car with a tiny trunk. I went to Lone Star Baby and tested some strollers out, including putting them in my trunk. Only one stroller fit. It is the Combi Twin Sport. I currently have a single Combi stroller and it is lightweight but does not turn well. The new Twin Sport does seem to turn much better. I am excited to try it out, and I found it on Amazon for only $190 compared to the suggested retail of $229.

Salma Hayek Breastfeeding Surrogate

February 11, 2009

Actress Salma Hayek, on a recent goodwill trip to Sierra Leone, was videotaped breastfeeding another woman’s baby boy. Hayek, who has a one year old daughter who is still breastfeeding, fed the very hungry little boy, hoping to lessen the stigma place on women for breastfeeding.

In Sierra Leone, which has the highest infant mortality rate in the world, tradition dictates that it is not acceptable to have sexual relations with women who are breastfeeding. Bowing to pressure from their husbands, these women stop breastfeeding within the first couple of months, while malnutrition helps fuel the death rate among infants.

Ms. Hayek told Nightline co-anchor Cynthia McFadden “Am I being disloyal to my child by giving her milk away?” Hayek said. “I actually think my baby would be very proud to share her milk. And when she grows up I’m going to make sure she continues to be a generous, caring person.” She also told of her grandmother, in Mexico years ago, saving the life of a starving infant by breastfeeding him.

Bumbo Recall

February 6, 2008

I just heard about the Bumbo seat recall due to babies falling off tables or other high surfaces. How about we recall the parents that left their baby sitting on a table instead of recalling the Bumbo seat?

He’s Here!

December 15, 2007

Ok, it has been a few months since I have posted anything. Although I was mainly sitting around my house, I did not have the brain cells to write. From what I have read, most of the blood in a pregnant woman’s boby is being used by the uterus. This causes the brain starved for blood. For me, my ability to think quickly, or even think at all, was gone. My mother warned me that part of my intelligence will go with each baby I have, but since baby arrived, I have gained most of it back.

Enzo arrived on November 13, 2007 after 29 hours of labor. I was have contractions every 2 minutes for a whole day, and even though I was completely dilated, he would not drop. Enzo was born at 9:51 weighing 7 lbs. 8 oz. and 20.5 inches. He came out perfect, and I don’t think this just because I am his mother. He was really pretty right out of the womb. Click here to see for yourself.

The first month has been exhausting but amazing. Enzo is a great baby who rarely gets fussy, but it is still difficult to wake up so often to feed him for an hour. My husband and I are working on a schedule that allows me to get a little extra sleep, and we are having a blast taking pictures and showing him off. Just 4 days old, we took Enzo for breakfast at The Original Pancake House, and about 2 weeks later, we all went to the mall.

Here are a few important things we have learned over the past few weeks. Dr. Brown’s bottles are the best. Unless your pediatrician says to, don’t change the nipple level. Level 1 is fine as long as it does not get clogged. Nestle Good Start Supreme gives babies dark green extra stinky poop. Cats are afraid of babies. Pampers Swaddlers made Enzo’s diaper rash worse by sticking to his butt. Huggies don’t stick. We have not tried Luv’s, but they are cheaper if you don’t have coupons. Hiccups either cause spit-up or spitting up triggers hiccups. Swaddling does work, and most receiving blankets are too small to do it right. Use larger square blankets or Kiddopotamus Swaddle Me. A&D ointment works better than Desitin. Moms worry much more than dads. Dads can sleep through almost anything. You really should sleep when the baby sleeps. A diaper bag can never be too big, and babies get cuter everyday!

Cute, Cheap Maternity Clothes…seriously!

August 28, 2007

I love to shop. So when I first started having trouble fitting in my clothes, I was excited for the chance to hit the mall. Since I am pregnant with my first child, I did not know much about maternity clothes, and I just assumed that the large department stores, like Macy’s, would be a good place to start. After eating lunch with my husband, I told him I was heading to Macy’s and asked him to meet me in the maternity department when he was done with his errands.

When I got to Macy’s, I walked around the whole store before I asked someone where the maternity department was located. To my surprise, they carried no maternity clothes. There I was waiting for my husband and no place to meet him. I called him, but his cell phone was not working. So, I wandered into customer service and asked if they could page him for me. The lady quickly replied that they only page for lost kids. With tears welling up in my eyes, I ask if it counts that I am “with child” and explained to her what happened. She finally calls a manager to page Scott for me.

After my adventure in Macy’s, I went home and search the net for places to get maternity clothes. I was extremely disappointed to find little more than overpriced specialty shops since most of my shopping consists of me rummaging through sale racks. One day, in a desperate attempt to find something comfortable to wear, I decided to try Old Navy. I was so excited to see sale racks with maternity clothes, and the clothes were not that bad looking either. Some were actually cute.

I bought a dress for $10, a gray shirt with tiers over the belly for $9, and one of the $5 flag shirts for 4th of July. Not only were the items cute, but they fit well, too. And I don’t have to worry about spending a lot of money on clothes I will only wear for a few months. The selection of the clothes in the stores is not huge, but it allows you to figure out what size you will need. Then, you can shop online were they have more items, colors, and sizes to choice from. Also, don’t rule out the “normal” size clothes. They have sizes up to XXXL which have enough room and length for your growing belly.
